“Allow elections follow the normal process, whoever wins, we will accept,” — Peter Obi speaks out at Abuja protest
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stood with Nigerians protesting at the National Assembly in Abuja today over the controversial INEC Electoral Reform Bill, which critics say undermines transparency in the electoral process.
Addressing the crowd at the protest ground, Obi called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stick to transparent practices — especially around the transmission of election results. In his exact words:
“Allow elections follow the normal process. Whoever wins, we will accept.”
He continued: “Simple transmission, allow the elections go through the normal process, whatever comes out of it, we’ll accept. Why’re you causing confusion?”
Obi stressed that Nigerians are not asking for anything extraordinary, only a credible, transparent, and fair electoral system. He added that as long as due process is followed, whoever wins — even in highly contested elections — should be respected and accepted by all.
