There Is No Reason to Detain Nnamdi Kanu”—Peter Obi Calls for Dialogue With Agitators
Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stated that there is no justification for the continued detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, emphasizing the need for dialogue over suppression.
“I have said this repeatedly, there is no reason for detaining Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. You cannot arrest somebody just because the person is speaking on radio,” Obi said.
Speaking further, Obi noted that being criticized or called names is not a crime, stressing that public figures often face such situations.
“I am a politician, people have been calling me names, it’s not an offence,” he added.
He also advocated for engagement with agitators across the country, stating that dialogue remains the best path to resolving tensions.
“Even all agitators; if I was in government today, I will discuss with them and engage with them, I will consult them. Because I believe if they have a reason for whatever they want to do, it’s only by engaging them we will learn and see how we can resolve this,” Obi said.
However, he acknowledged his current limitations, noting that he is not in a position to take action at the moment.
“But I am not in position to do anything today,” he concluded.
