Randy Peter Questions Nigeria’s Reliance on Prayer Amid Governance Concerns
Randy Peter has criticized what he describes as Nigeria’s overreliance on religion while key issues of governance and accountability remain unresolved.
According to him
“Every politician in Nigeria worships either in a mosque or a church. In fact, traditional worshippers hardly show their faces publicly because of stigmatisation. So if everybody is going to church or mosque, then who is ste@l!ng money in government?
Almost every police command has a chapel and a mosque. If you go to a police station very early in the morning, you will hear them singing, “O sing, O sing oh.” The DPO will start the day with worship, but when you finish, bail is not free.We are d£ceiv!ng ourselves. We are a religious people who do not fear God. The question we should ask is, which prayer built China? Which prayer built Russia?
The wealthiest people in the world are not Christians, but there are certain principles they follow that work for them. Look at Dubai, a country Nigeria has even contributed to its development. Today, our religious leaders and government officials travel there for conferences and seminars, yet it is not even a religious nation. So we pray and then leave the responsibility to act.
If, from the beginning, everyone had woken up and said, “No, this country must be good,” and taken action, things might have been different. But instead, we kept praying and hoping things would get better. We have prayed for 65 years and still became the 4th most terrorised country in the world and the headquarters of extreme poverty. We prayed for 65 years until the dollar moved from ₦1 to ₦100, and now over ₦1,000…”
