Obasanjo Recounts Alleged Plot to Kill Him During Abacha Regime
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has recounted what he described as an alleged attempt to eliminate him while he was detained under the military regime of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
Obasanjo said Abacha had allegedly told some people that MKO Abiola, Shehu Yar’Adua and himself would not leave detention alive, claiming that Yar’Adua was injected with a virus and that a similar attempt was made against him.
In his words, he said:
Abacha told people that MKO Abiola, Shehu Yar’Adua and I would not come out of detention alive. Yar’Adua was injected with a virus. They also tried to do the same to me.
A military doctor came to me, saying he wanted to take my blood for a test. I refused. I told him I would only allow a doctor I trusted to take my blood.
The doctor I trusted took my blood and gave it to the military doctor. I was told the result would come after the blood got to Abuja. But that result never came till today.”
