2027 Election: “I Am Not Interested In Replacing Shettima” – Dogara
Dogara shuts down talks of replacing Shettima ahead of 2027 and speaks on inclusion.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has dismissed talks linking him to a possible replacement of Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Dogara reacted to the growing debate within the All Progressives Congress over whether the party should retain a Muslim Muslim ticket in the next election.
Speaking on Channels Television Sunday Politics, Dogara asked Nigerians and political actors to leave him out of the speculation. He said decisions about leadership should be based on what is right, not fear or pressure.
According to him, Nigeria needs an inclusive government that brings everyone together, regardless of religion or region.
Dogara said discussions about rotational presidency and religious balance are important and should be handled openly. He explained that if a Muslim is chosen, it should be seen as representing the Muslim community, and if a Christian is chosen, the same principle should apply.
He added that conversations about possibly picking a Christian running mate in 2027 are already happening within the APC.
However, Dogara noted that the final decision will rest with President Bola Tinubu.
He pointed out that no sitting president has ever failed to secure his party’s ticket.
