MMIA Upgrade Praise Lands Iyabo Ojo in Hot Water Online”
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo posted a video on her social media (Instagram/X) where she highlighted and praised recent upgrades at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA). In the video and caption, she commended the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for improvements to the terminals and services, describing the changes as positive and expressing pride in Nigeria.
Although the upgrades themselves were generally seen as good news, the timing and choice of messenger stirred controversy. Many social media users noted that Ojo had previously supported former Anambra State governor Peter Obi in the 2023 elections, which contrasted with the current administration of President Bola Tinubu — under whose government the MMIA upgrades took place.
Some critics argued that celebrities who were more aligned with President Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) (e.g., Toyin Abraham or Eniola Badmus) should have been chosen to showcase the airport works instead of Ojo.
Other commenters accused her of hypocrisy — saying it was inappropriate for someone who criticised the government to now publicly praise a federal project, and some even questioned her integrity or motives.
What said
FAAN is improving in so many ways. Alongside the renovation of MMIA Lagos Terminal 1 and the beauty and comfort of Terminal 2, the Protocol Team’s service is exceptional. I’m proud of my country,” she wrote in her caption.
