Police Reiterate Ban on Civilian Possession of Prohibited Firearms
The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated that civilians are not allowed to possess prohibited firearms, following the arrest of a man found with an AK-47 rifle.
The statement reads
“I always say, I don’t think anybody is allowed in this country to be in possession of prohibited firearms for personal protection.
You are not talking about any firearm here, we are talking about an AK-47 rifle. No matter how highly placed or wealthy you are, certain arms are prohibited
According to the suspect, he resorted to acquiring the weapon after being kidnapped twice by terrorists, saying he feared a third attempt and sought it for self-defense.
