Appeal for Improved Welfare of Security Operatives in Nigeria
A public commentator, D English Alhaji, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently review and increase the salaries of security personnel across the country.
In his appeal, he lamented the low earnings of soldiers, stating that many are risking and losing their lives on the frontlines while earning between ₦104,000 and ₦110,000 monthly.
He said
Dear Federal Government, you should increase the salaries of our soldiers. It is quite unfortunate that many of them are dying at the frontline for just ₦104,000 to ₦110,000. In Nigeria today, a good police officer who does not engage in extortion can hardly afford to build a house or buy a good car. You rarely see their children attending expensive schools because of how little they earn.”
