Makinde Advocates State Police, Says Amotekun Was Created as Stop-Gap Security Measure
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called for the establishment of state police in Nigeria, stating that regional security initiatives like Amotekun were created as temporary solutions to address growing insecurity.
Makinde explained that the security outfit known as Amotekun Corps was formed because of the absence of a formal state policing system, describing it as a stop-gap measure to support existing federal security agencies.
According to them
Before this government there was nothing like Amotekun. It was because we didn’t get state police that’s why we created this group as a stop-gap
If they want to do state police, don’t ask the Inspector General of Police to create it for us. Our state assembly will create it. Just give them the authority and support and state police will come to be here
