Economic Hardship Driving Insecurity — Pascal Ebhohimhen Calls for Holistic National Response
Former Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Pascal Ebhohimhen, has said that Nigeria’s insecurity challenges cannot be fully resolved without addressing deep-rooted economic issues.
He argued that factors such as poverty, unemployment, underemployment, and the rising cost of living remain key drivers of instability across the country.
He said
As long as poverty, unemployment, underemployment, and the high cost of living persist, insecurity in Nigeria cannot be fully resolved. While security agencies are deploying modern tools such as digital technology, surveillance systems, and intelligence gathering, a lasting solution must go beyond enforcement. The root causes of insecurity are economic hardship, joblessness, and widespread poverty, which require a comprehensive and holistic response. The administration’s focus over the past three years has largely been economic stabilisation, and the expectation is that the next phase will deliver economic transformation
