Sam Amadi Calls for NYSC Suspension Over Security and Structural Concerns
Public policy expert and ARISE News analyst, Dr. Sam Amadi, has called for the suspension of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), citing security risks and systemic inefficiencies.
Amadi criticized what he described as the growing trend of elites manipulating the scheme, alongside the government’s inability to adequately protect corps members.
According to him
“Nigeria has a problem with what I call the avoidance of radical action. Most elites now self-select their NYSC postings, which defeats the fundamental framework and objective of the scheme. The ministry in charge of the NYSC does not have the resources to provide protocols to protect corps members. I believe that the scheme should be suspended, or at least suspended in some states with established security challenges. There is nothing honourable about this scheme from the perspective of corps members, and there is very little value that the government is getting from it.
