Falana: Arrest of Suspect’s Family Members Unconstitutional in Nigeria
Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has stated that the arrest of family members of a criminal suspect is unlawful under Nigerian law.
Falana emphasized that, “As far as the law is concerned, family members of a criminal suspect cannot be arrested in Nigeria,” stressing that such actions violate established legal provisions.
According to him
As far as the law is concerned, family members of a criminal suspect cannot be arrested in Nigeria. The reported arrest of Adeyemi’s father cannot be justified under the constitution, the administration of the criminal justice act, and the Nigerian police force establishment act.
