Bwala: Nigerians Earning ₦60,000 Are Better Off Than Some Who Relocated Abroad 5 Years Ago
Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communications, stated that some Nigerians earning just ₦60,000 a month are in a better position than those who left the country five years ago seeking better opportunities.
Bwala shared these thoughts during an interview on The Morayo Show. He highlighted that many Nigerians who moved abroad, especially to the United Kingdom, are dealing with tough economic challenges even though they have university degrees and professional qualifications.
He noted that many Nigerians living overseas end up working in care homes, warehouses, and other jobs that don’t match their education.
“Some of you in Nigeria who think you’re struggling are actually better off than your friends who left five years ago,” he pointed out.
He explained that a large part of their earnings goes toward rent, transportation, internet bills, utilities, and food. This leaves them with very little money to spend.
“At the end of the day, what you have left isn’t much. So you end up having to work two or three jobs,” he added.
Bwala stated that Nigerians with modest incomes at home can still receive help from family and friends, unlike many people living abroad who lack this support system.
“That person earning ₦60,000 can still get assistance from relatives and friends, while those overseas often have no one to rely on,” he said.
The presidential aide also supported the Tinubu administration’s social programs, pointing out new healthcare efforts launched by the Federal Government.
He explained that the government has introduced a 50 percent discount on dialysis services in federal hospitals and made cesarean section procedures free at public health facilities.
Bwala added that the administration plans to broaden healthcare support to include more medical services and prescription medications as government resources improve.
