2027: INEC Warns Politicians Against Threats, Says Offenders Risk ₦5m Fine or 12 Months in Prison
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned politicians and political actors against making threats or engaging in actions capable of disrupting peace and order during the 2027 election campaigns.
INEC stressed that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies have a clear responsibility to prevent any breakdown of law and order during political campaigns.
“The Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies have a clear duty to prevent the breakdown of law and order during political campaigns.”
The commission added that political campaigns should focus on presenting competing ideas and policies rather than violence and confrontation.
“Political campaigns should be platforms of competing ideas, not theatres of war.”
