Court Dismisses Suit Seeking Fresh Police Investigation Into Mohbad’s Death
The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Justice James Omotosho, in a judgment delivered on Thursday, September 24, 2026, held that the applicant, the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, lacked the legal standing to institute the suit.
The judge also ruled that the foundation failed to provide credible evidence to support its claim that the earlier police investigation was inadequate. In particular, the foundation did not present the report of the initial investigation to establish that some of Mohbad’s relatives were not questioned.
Justice Omotosho said the claims were therefore speculative and could not form the basis for ordering a fresh investigation.
