Lady Says Online “Love” Cost Her ₦40 Million Life Savings
A Nigerian woman recently shared a heartbreaking account on TikTok of how she lost her entire life savings, about ₦40 million to a man she met on the dating app Tinder.
Her story quickly went viral and has sparked serious discussion about romance scams and online relationships.
According to her account:
She met the man on Tinder, and he introduced himself as a single father and a builder working in construction.
On their first date, she gave him ₦500,000 as a supposed loan for his project.
As the relationship progressed, he allegedly kept requesting money — saying he needed help with work expenses and claiming financial hardship.
What She Says She Did
To support him, the woman claims she:
Bought him a Samsung smartphone so he’d look professional.
Revamped his Instagram profile to make him look credible online.
Sold her iPhone 15 Pro Max to settle a loan she took on his behalf.
Whenever she asked for proof of his work/projects, she says he sent images she later discovered were downloaded from Google instead of real photos of his job sites.
The Loss & Aftermath
She claims that within about six months, the money she gave him — and the assets she liquidated — amounted to around ₦40 million, leaving her broke, homeless, and struggling to survive after the relationship ended.
She also identified the alleged scammer as a 46-year-old man from Ondo State, and accused him of working with a woman — purportedly his wife posing as his younger sister — which she believes was part of a coordinated scam
