El Rufai Accuses Tinubu Of Illegal N100bn Monthly Deductions, Calls For Impeachment
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai, has accused President Bola Tinubu of illegally deducting N100 billion every month from the federation account without approval from the National Assembly.
El Rufai made the allegation during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
According to him, the deductions have allegedly been ongoing for more than 15 months, bringing the total amount to about N1.5 trillion.
He claimed that the action violates the constitution because funds from the federation account belong not only to the federal government but also to the states, which require approval from both the National Assembly and state houses of assembly before any spending.
El Rufai described the alleged deductions as unconstitutional and said they amount to an impeachable offence.
He questioned how such a large sum of money could be spent without transparency, asking what the funds were used for and why insecurity continues to worsen across the country.
The former governor also criticised the government for asking communities to defend themselves despite huge spending on security.
El Rufai said that if anyone had predicted the current situation during the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, he would not have believed it.
