Israel Warns ‘Any Successor’ to Iran’s Khamenei Will Be Target for Assassination
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, has issued a stark warning that anyone chosen as Iran’s next Supreme Leader will be a “target for assassination”.
This statement comes after the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, in an Israeli airstrike on February 28, 2026.
Katz emphasized that Israel will not hesitate to take action against anyone who continues to threaten Israel, the United States, and the free world.
“Every leader appointed by the Iranian terror regime to continue and lead the plan to destroy Israel, to threaten the United States and the free world and the countries of the region, and to suppress the Iranian people — will be a target for elimination,” Katz wrote on X.
The warning is seen as a significant escalation in the conflict between Israel and Iran, with Israel targeting a building associated with Iran’s Assembly of Experts, which is responsible for selecting the new Supreme Leader.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is reportedly a contender for the position, but Israel has made it clear that he would also be a target.
The Israeli military has been conducting airstrikes in Iran, targeting key military and leadership sites.
The international community is on high alert, with tensions rising in the Middle East.
The US has expressed support for Israel’s actions, while Iran has vowed to retaliate.
