Tinubu Launches Climate Tour, Calls for Green Growth
President Bola Tinubu has launched the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour (REHCCAT), a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting climate resilience and sustainable development across Nigeria.
The launch event, held at the State House in Abuja, brought together governors, private sector leaders, and stakeholders to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
Tinubu emphasized that climate change is no longer a distant threat, but a present reality affecting farmers, coastal communities, and businesses across the country.
He urged governors to serve as “engines of green growth” and tasked the private sector to innovate and invest boldly in climate resilience.
The REHCCAT initiative seeks to:
– Democratize Climate Knowledge: Ensure citizens understand climate risks and opportunities
– Align Federal and State Action: Implement Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Energy Transition Plans
– Mobilize Partnerships and Investment: Unlock green jobs, innovation, and climate finance
The tour will cover Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, engaging governors, traditional rulers, students, entrepreneurs, farmers, and financial institutions to identify bankable projects and unlock local solutions.
Tinubu also highlighted youth-focused initiatives, including the Eco-School Initiative, Youth Climate Innovation Hub, and Uni-Go-Green Initiative, aimed at mainstreaming environmental education and promoting green entrepreneurship.
