Gov Abba Yusuf To Join APC as Kano, Plateau Moved Ahead of 2027 Election
Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf is expected to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) today, following his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), marking a major shift in the state’s political alignment.
Confirming the development, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunesid Tume, said prevailing realities of governance, national cohesion, and development informed Yusuf’s decision to return to the APC. He described the ruling party as a familiar and structured platform for progressive governance.
Governor Yusuf said his move to the APC would strengthen cooperation with the federal government, accelerate infrastructure development, enhance security coordination, and improve overall service delivery across Kano State. He added that the decision would also consolidate political stability and unity in the state.
The development comes amid broader realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape. In a related move, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang is also expected to be formally received by the APC national leadership on Tuesday, barring any last-minute changes.
Party sources say Mutfwang’s reception would end months of speculation and signal a strategic recalibration aimed at strengthening Plateau State’s access to federal support, particularly in the areas of security and infrastructure.
With these developments, the APC appears poised to further tighten its grip ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition-controlled states increasingly gravitate toward the ruling party.
