APC Risks 2027 Setback If Shettima Is Dropped — Musawa 2027 Election Warning
Minister of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against altering the current Muslim–Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that such a move could significantly weaken the party’s chances.
Musawa said dropping Vice President Kashim Shettima or failing to retain a northern Muslim as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate would carry serious political risks, particularly in core northern states where voting behaviour is strongly shaped by regional and religious considerations.
Her remarks come amid growing speculation within political circles that the ruling party may consider changing its ticket ahead of the next election cycle.
According to the minister, northern Nigeria remains one of the most politically sophisticated regions in the country, with deeply entrenched social identities and historical voting patterns that parties ignore at their peril.
Musawa also expressed confidence that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain well-positioned to secure a second term, insisting that stability within the ticket would be critical as opposition alliances begin to take shape ahead of 2027.
